Actuación de varias parrandas y grupos folclóricos, durante la velada en la que se repartirán más de 500 kilos de castañas, nueces, manzanas, anís y repostería típica. Tampoco faltará el vino tan representativo del municipio, así como otros alimentos propios de esta época del año.

En el estado de Morelos, en las afueras de la ciudad mexicana de Cuernavaca, se encuentra el pequeño Pueblo Ocotepec. Como la mayoría de los habitantes del pueblo son de ascendencia indígena, siguen hablando náhuatl y observando las costumbres de su pueblo. Una de estas costumbres es la celebración de “El Día de los Muertos”. Este día se celebra con gran respeto, especialmente por parte de los ancianos. Con el tiempo las tradiciones han cambiado. Con la llegada del catolicismo y de la cultura mestiza, muchas de las nuevas generaciones ya no mantienen las antiguas creencias.
En el centro del pueblo de Ocotepec vivía la familia Ortiz. Los padres, Demetrio y Lupe, tenían tres hijos: dos hijas, Hortensia y María, y un hijo, Antonio. Aunque Demetrio, el padre, había enseñado a sus hijos con el ejemplo a vivir en armonía con la naturaleza y a seguir la tradición, Antonio se negaba a creer en las costumbres de su pueblo. Por el contrario, desde que asistió a la escuela secundaria en la gran ciudad de los mestizos, se había vuelto arrogante y sin interés. Los fines de semana Demetrio, el padre, despertaba a Antonio temprano y lo llevaba a la milpa. “Vamos mijo, vamos hijo, vamos a ver cuánto ha crecido el maíz”. El aire de la mañana era fresco y los pájaros cantaban alegres anunciando la llegada de un nuevo día. Demetrio continuó “Llevaremos a Pecas y a Toro con nosotros mijo. Ya están esperando fuera”. Los dos perros de la familia seguían a Demetrio a donde fuera. Eran sus mejores amigos.
